Blog
Welcome to the ‘blog’ page of Proof It!
Writing is a very important outlet for many people, including us. It can be extremely therapeutic and has the power to show people that they are not alone in how they are feeling or give them ideas that they may not have otherwise thought of. Every month we will be adding a new blog entry and will be including book reviews, literary advice and even some reading challenges. We are a huge advocate for the importance of reading and love to share our recommendations, as well as hear of books other people have enjoyed.
Please feel free to get involved and let us know your thoughts on any of the subjects raised.
Recommended Children’s Books
Children’s literature is one of the most popular categories to hold its place in book shops. It is consistently ranked amongst the top-selling genres which is proven by the figures collected each year. In 2022 there was a record-breaking number of books sold with over 122 million fictional children’s books being purchased, as well as 67 million non-fictional children’s books. This shows the appetite for reading is still very strong amongst the younger population. If you were to ask children what they look for in a good novel the answers would almost certainly vary, but I am assuming that ‘humorous’…
Self-Help Book Reviews
Nearly every book shop will have a designated section for the self-help books genre, whose popularity is rapidly increasing. Anxiety is at an all-time high and mental health conditions are being more widely acknowledged, meaning that there is a need for a variation of self-help books tailored to fit specific issues. With this wide range to choose from, I have narrowed down some…
UCAS Applications
If you are applying to go to university, you will be aware that the application process can be rather intense. The main pinnacle, the personal statement, is like an essay assignment in itself and has a certain criterion that needs to be met. Writing this can take up a vast amount of time when a lot of effort is put into it, which is why this blog aims to give you some direction on the application and, most specifically, the personal statement, so that you hopefully aren’t left feeling overwhelmed by the process. UCAS stands for University and College Admissions…
My Recommended Festive Reads
At this time of year, there are displays everywhere in book shops showing a selection of books recommended to bring us joy, alongside a bit of festive escapism. I have decided to narrow down the list to give my suggestions of what you may enjoy, either alone or with family, this Christmas time. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens It would be nearly impossible to think about Christmas reads and not have Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, high up on the list. This is the ultimate festive morale-booster with its famous message about the spirit of Christmas outweighing one’s…
The Benefits of Reading
Whenever you look up advice for reducing stress or having ‘you’ time, one of the recommendations will always be to read. It is one of life’s simple pleasures that can bring a multitude of benefits that might not always be quite so obvious. Books can be a source of education, escapism, and a window into different worlds that we may not have otherwise discovered. They bring comfort, joy, understanding and so much more. The power of reading is often under-appreciated, and I wanted to bring awareness to the ways that it can help to enhance our everyday lives. Children’s books…
